So here’s a hypothetical scenario of a result of this bill. (from Freedomaction.org) Exampleville, Ohio has two people running for U.S. Congress—Mr. Democrat and Mr. Republican—in what promises to be a close race. Exampleville’s local Tea Party believes in Mr. Republican. The Tea Party wants to run ads highlighting Mr. Republican’s stance on cap and trade, federal spending, increased taxation, etc, but they don’t have enough money to fulfill the new highly complex reporting requirements from DISCLOSE. And DISCLOSE would force them to list their top donors, even if they are not necessarily the specific donors to the ads, in their ads. Besides, the disclaimers required could take up to 14 of a 30 second ad. The Tea Party gives up trying to run ads to support Mr. Republican.
In contrast, Mr. Democrat has some well-funded unions who want to see Exampleville’s factories unionized, so the unions run ads against Mr. Republican and ads for Mr. Democrat. Also, the Sierra Club and the ACLU (groups actually opposed to DISCLOSE) want Mr. Democrat to support their issues, so they also run ads for Mr. Democrat. None of these ads are subject to DISCLOSE’s requirements.
Cost of Bill H.R. 5175 (Info from http://www.gop.gov/bill/111/2/hr5175) The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimates CBO estimates that implementing H.R. 5175 would cost $2 million in fiscal year 2011 and about $10 million over the 2011-2015 period, subject to appropriation of the necessary funds. Those amounts would cover additional administrative costs for the FEC to ensure compliance with the bill. Enacting H.R. 5175 could increase revenues and direct spending from the collection of civil and criminal penalties; therefore, pay-as-you-go procedures would apply. However, CBO estimates that the net budgetary effect of any additional penalty collections would be negligible for each year.

Senator Grassley- http://grassley.senate.gov/contact.cfm Senator Harkin- http://harkin.senate.gov/contact.cfm
There are over 500 members of this tea party, how many will make the effort to contact their represenatives?
Folks these bills are not read by those who are voting on them (Sen Jim DeMint stated 94% of the bills in the Senate are not even read). The fall out comes after the bill becomes law and people get the chance to read them.
The language contained in these bills gives the "czars" total control and our Congress is bypassed. Welcome to "Socialism".
Please contact your representatives before 2:00 pm today.

Here is a letter I am faxing:
I urge you Senator to vote “No” during this afternoons cloture vote on The Establishment Protection Act S.3628 (H.R.5175). I urge you to know the intent of the bill before even voting on it. The Establishment Protection Act will infringe on the privacy of every American citizen. It will limit our right to free speech, and silence C4L and like-minded organizations that hold our elected officials, such as you, to be accountable to your constituents. Please be aware that Senator Chuck Schumer has introduced a revised version of this bill and used Senate rules to bypass committee and go straight to the floor. I understand this bills purpose is to make the legislative process more transparent. If future bills bypass the Senate rules and do not get debated in committee would not this bill be detrimental to the citizens of this nation and become unconstitutional? The people need to know what the Congress is doing for each member works for the American people. My God remember those who vote on The Establishment Protection Act S.3628 and make note of their works. Sincerely; | |

DISCLOSE Act Falls Short But Advocates Vow to Keep Fighting
By Jesse Zwick 7/27/10 4:58 PM The Democrats’ move to invoke cloture on the DISCLOSE Act this afternoon fell short of the necessary 60 votes. The official tally ended up at 57-41, with every Republican voting against the motion. Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) was absent, and Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.) ended up voting “no” as a procedural move in order to be able to call another vote on the bill in the future.
