Why aren't we hearing about this?!?! I only heard this on Fox Tuesday evening. This past Tuesday the House of Representatives voted against giving themselves a pay raise this year. (Wow!! Really smart move considering the economy -- jobless rate -- AND . . . wait for it . . . IT'S AN ELECTION YEAR!!!LOL) The House approved the freeze 402-15. All 15 members (did you get that?? . . . ALL 15 members) who voted AGAINST blocking the pay hike (which means they wanted the pay increase) were DEMOCRATS!! And . . . (yah, it gets better) 13 of those were members of the Congressional Black Caucus, including House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn, D-S.C.!!! House members not in leadership (no telling what the House Majority Whip makes!!) currently make $174,000 a year!!! Salaries DOUBLED for lawmakers over the past two decades!! These 15 apparently have no shame!! It is appalling to me that this isn't making the news headlines . . . of course it would have been had it been 15 Republicans.

it also amazes me that they pass these laws and myteriously leave themselves excempt from them. UNBELIEVABLE! How are people not insanely up in arms about this? It blows my mind. How can they legally do that?

I so agree!!! That is the other big thing -- especially in regard to the recently passed health care reform bill -- they exempt themselves!!!!!!! If it is so wonderful then why don't they want in on it?!?! We need to pass an amendment that says they have to live under the same laws they pass on us!!! To me that is tyranny and a dictatorship!! Every American should be mad and screaming at their congressman about this!!!

Now, does the statement "salaries doubled of the last two decades" account for inflation? Just wondering, I completely agree that our elected officials get paid entirely too much. They should earn the average middle class income for their state, in my humble opinion. This along with term limits I feel would remind our elected officials that they are public servants.
